Presque Isle Advance January 18 by Peter Jakey
The Hurons had a dogfight against their county rivals.
Onaway built a 29-12 lead with six weight classes to
go, but head coach Pat Lamb knew he was going to get 12
points at the end of the match, because the Cardinals
did not have anybody at 130 or 135. It did add some
drama though.
"I have to tip my hat to them. They (Onaway) came
prepared to wrestle." said Lamb. "None of the things
that could have gone our way went our way. Things kind
of snowballed a little bit and we got behind."
Chase McLennan (189) lost 4-2 to Andrew LaLonde on a
third period takedown, while Steve Bassett earned a 10-2
win against T.J. Sobeck.
Sobeck fought with every ounce of energy to not get
pinned, which was the result of the last meeting
between the two. He also kept Division IV's No.1 rated
103-pounder from picking up six points.
LaLonde and Bassett went on to claim the MVP trophies.
LaLonde won the MVP plaque for the upper weights; while
Bassett won the award for the lower weights.
