Parents, coaches, and wrestlers please lobby your AD and superintendants for support of the initiative to include UP wrestlers in the Michigan State Tournament. Here is an excerpt from a letter written by a representative of the UPWCA:

UP WRESTLING COACHES
2006 Individual State Tournament Information
At the 2005-2006 Wrestling Committee Meeting held on January 25, 2006 in Lansing, Michigan it was unanimously voted to allow the Upper Peninsula wrestlers to participate in the Michigan Individual State Tournament. There was tremendous support from many coaches and administrators willing to help us lobby our superintendents and Upper Peninsula Athletic Committee members so we can participate in the state tournament.
We need the Upper Peninsula superintendents that have wrestling programs to overwhelmingly support us in participating in the IST. This overwhelmingly majority must be 14 of the 18 schools that support UP wrestling teams.
Presently we have written documentation from six wrestling schools that are willing to support our cause; we have verbal commitments from several others (four) that are in the process of getting the documentation completed. One school has opposed the idea of us participating in the IST with the remainder undecided.
The UPAC (Upper Peninsula Athletic Committee) will be sending out a survey to the wrestling schools in the near future. This survey will determine the outcome of several years of work by the Upper Peninsula wrestling coaches who also unanimously want to participate in the IST.
If you want your athletes to participate in the wrestling IST, you must talk to your administration, specifically your superintendent before they receive the survey and explain to them the reasons for the change. If you choose not to act on this issue in the next several weeks our opportunity for change will be missed.
